Who We Are

Women’s Reproductive Rights Assistance Project (WRRAP) is the largest national, independent, nonprofit abortion fund. We provide urgently-needed financial assistance nationwide to individuals seeking abortion services or emergency contraception.

About Us

What WRRAP does

WRRAP assists women* and girls of all ethnicities, sexual orientations, gender identities, and cultural backgrounds who are financially unable to pay for safe, legal abortions or emergency contraceptives. We provide funds directly to pre-screened, pre-qualified health clinics and doctors across the nation on behalf of women in need of abortion services or emergency contraceptives. WRRAP does not ask for repayment of funds.

WRRAP fills the gap between public and private funding and what low-income women are able to afford. Our highly-trained volunteers staff our telephone hotline five days a week, working directly with over 700 clinics, hospitals, and doctors across the country, getting funds to women in need.

Our affiliate clinics and doctors are members of Planned Parenthood, National Abortion Federation, Abortion Care Network, and/or independent health clinics or doctors. WRRAP proudly helped found the National Network of Abortion Funds (NNAF) 30 years ago.

Today, WRRAP is the largest nationwide, independent, nonprofit abortion fund assisting patients in all 50 states.

We are headquartered in Los Angeles, California and are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.

*WRRAP’s definition of “women” includes transgender, genderqueer and non-binary people who are woman-identified.

Our Mission

WRRAP ensures that financially-disadvantaged individuals of all ages, ethnicities, cultural backgrounds, gender identities, and sexual orientations can access abortion care and emergency contraception. We provide funding for both medical and surgical procedures.

About Us

How we work

WRAAP evaluates each patient solely on the basis of financial need. Once approved, WRRAP sends the funds earmarked for the patient directly to the WRRAP-affiliated health clinic or doctor of the patient’s choice.

Our affiliate clinics and doctors are members of Planned Parenthood, National Abortion Federation, Abortion Care Network, and/or independent health clinics or doctors. They feature state-of-the-art medical facilities, and the best healthcare practices and procedures. We have over 700 clinics, doctors, and hospitals that we work with across the United States.

About Us

The significance of WRAAP’s national presence

The surge of anti-abortion legislation has triggered more insurmountable financial barriers for thousands of individuals needing abortion care services. WRRAP’s national presence uniquely positions us to alleviate potentially devastating geographic-based hardships for patients.

So many reproductive health centers have closed in recent years that many states have very few clinics left. In fact, Kentucky, Mississippi, and Alabama have just one. Because of this, the clinic located closest to a patient may be in a neighboring state, rather than in a patient’s home state. State-based financial assistance requires aid recipients (patients) to use in-state services, which is not an option if your state has no clinics remaining.

Patients located far away from in-state clinics are forced to incur increased travel costs, child care costs, lodging, and missed work-related expenses in order to receive abortion care out of state. Additionally, there are mandated waiting periods in certain states, plus ongoing COVID-19 dangers.

Being nationwide, WRRAP enables patients to receive care at a WRRAP-approved hospital or clinic of the patient’s choosing, regardless of location. Currently, much of our funding is given to patients who are living in states that are hostile or very hostile to women’s reproductive rights.

About Us

Our values affirm the following

  1. The constitutional right to choose abortion is meaningless without access to abortion services.
  2. Restrictions on abortion access and funding are discriminatory because they disproportionately burden poor women, young women, women of color, military women, federally-employed women, and rural women.
  3. Abortion is a component of basic healthcare — a right that should be guaranteed to all.

WRRAP does not ask for repayment of funds. We never judge the patients we assist through our network of more than 700 clinics and doctors. We operate on a primarily volunteer model, enabling us to direct close to 90% of the funds we raise towards helping women in need. WRRAP’s funding comes solely from private donations through our own fundraising efforts.

Consider giving to WRRAP and help us ensure safe, legal abortion is accessible to all!
