Our Mission
At WRRAP, we believe no one should be forced to carry a pregnancy simply because they cannot afford care.
Since 1991, WRRAP has worked to make sure cost is never the reason someone can’t access safe, legal abortion care or emergency contraception.
We are a non-partisan, nonprofit organization — California’s longest-running abortion fund and one of the largest independent funds in the nation. We work with a trusted network of clinics, doctors, and hospitals across the country to provide direct financial assistance on behalf of each patient. Every dollar we commit goes directly toward care, and patients are never asked to repay it.

What are abortion funds?
Abortion funds help people who cannot afford abortion care or emergency contraception. They cover part or all of the cost so people can access the care they need, on their own terms.
WRRAP is a nationwide, independent fund serving people from coast to coast. We work directly with clinics, doctors, and hospitals — not patients — and operate in full compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
About our process
How does WRRAP work?
We partner with 700+ pre-approved clinics, hospitals, and providers across the U.S. When a patient needs support, here’s what happens:
- The clinic confirms the patient’s need and contacts WRRAP directly.
- The provider discusses with the patient what they can contribute, if anything.
- If there’s a gap, the provider requests funding from WRRAP and local abortion funds.
- WRRAP reviews the request and commits funding based on need — typically the same day.
- Funds go straight to the clinic for that specific patient, never to the patient directly.
Funding is arranged before the appointment, so patients should ask their provider early.
About the need
Why are abortion funds needed?
Abortion care can be expensive, and the procedure itself is rarely the only cost:
- First trimester abortion care runs around $500
- Second trimester care often exceeds $1,000
- Additional costs, such as travel, lodging, childcare, and lost wages, add up quickly
Most people seeking abortion care are low-income and paying entirely out of pocket. Medicaid covers abortion only in limited cases due to federal restrictions under the Hyde Amendment, and private insurance frequently doesn’t cover it either. Ongoing legal restrictions continue to make access harder and more expensive, and delays in care increase both cost and health risk.
WRRAP exists to close the funding gap.
