Susan Sheu is a writer, public health advocate, and feminist progressive organizer. A native of Wisconsin, Susan spent her early years in her father’s home country of Taiwan and in her Swedish-German-American mother’s home community in the Midwest. She received a need-based scholarship to attend Vassar College, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in history. She holds a master’s degree in public health and epidemiology from the University of California, Los Angeles, and a master’s degree in fine arts from Bennington College, where she won the Bennington Nonfiction Award in 2017.

Susan has worked as a cancer researcher and medical writer and her written work has appeared in Longreads and other literary journals. She has performed her nonfiction work onstage and on public radio. Her professional and civic work and activism is a product of her experience as the daughter of a single woman who left an abusive marriage and raised two biracial children by working at a domestic violence shelter and other low-paid but necessary caretaking work. Susan Sheu lives with her husband and three children in Los Angeles.
